This course is a core part of our MBA (Global). Whether you are currently in a leadership role, or your ambition is to become a leader in business, use this course to:

  • understand what leadership is, why it’s important and why different leadership perspectives have evolved over time
  • reflect on your own approach to leadership
  • gain a set of tools and techniques that will help you with future leadership challenges.

What will I study?

On this course, you will:

  • carry out an analysis of your personality and leadership type
  • complete an online leadership simulation, the Everest Challenge, which requires you to plan and execute a survival strategy, using limited resources to overcome challenges
  • gain a greater knowledge of your leadership behaviours and capabilities in the context of your cultural and professional environment
  • explore a range of leadership case studies to learn how and why different decisions are made depending on situation, context and experience
  • consider your own professional development and look at future business trends.

By the end of this course, you will understand...

  • What leadership is and why it is important.
  • Your own leadership behaviour and how it impacts on others.
  • How to recognise and appreciate different leadership theories and approaches.
  • The strengths and weaknesses of a range of leadership theories and approaches.
  • Why ‘context’ is important for shaping and understanding approaches to leadership.
  • How to apply a range of tools and techniques to address different leadership scenarios.

How will I study?

The Leadership Challenge is an eight-week short course, delivered entirely online. You can study with us anywhere in the world and manage your study hours to suit you.

This course is taught at Masters level by experienced academics and researchers from the University of Aberdeen’s Business School. Course materials are carefully planned and structured.

You’ll have unlimited access to our custom-built study platform, designed for ease of use and communication. Also available as an app, you can study on computer, smartphone and tablet 24/7.

Tuition is one-to-one and unlimited, which means your tutor will respond to any questions and provide feedback on your coursework within 24 hours, Monday to Friday.
