Access Maths SCQF 6 is a flexible online short course.

It’s designed to help you access university and college courses, including teaching courses, when you don’t have the Higher maths qualifications you need.

100% online, you can study anywhere you have internet access. Available 24/7, all year round, you can enrol when you like and study at your own pace.

Spread the cost. Start with the ‘Learning only’ course and you can pay for the assessment stage separately when you’re ready.

What you’ll study

You’ll work through an engaging range of maths topics.

The topic areas cover key SCQF Level 6 (Higher level) skills, including:

  • differentiation
  • integration
  • polynomials
  • straight line equations
  • trigonometry
  • vectors.

How you’ll study

Your course is delivered online through MyAberdeen, our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). It gives you 24-hour access to learning resources, including:

  • videos
  • reading materials
  • discussion boards with classmates.

You have two study options:

  • Learning and assessment – gives you access to all the learning materials, discussion boards and online assessment. You need to complete the assessment to earn credits. What are credits?
  • Learning only – just gives you access to the learning materials and discussion boards.

If you choose ‘Learning only’, you can purchase the assessment stage separately anytime.

Once you’ve enrolled, you have 12 months to complete the course at your own pace.

Learning and assessment

On successful completion of the course and assessments, you’ll receive:

  • 15 credits at SCQF Level 6 (Higher-equivalent level), and
  • a transcript of your achievement from the University of Aberdeen.

This Access qualification is not a Higher qualification. It is equivalent to a Higher qualification.

Highers are awarded by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). This Access qualification is awarded by the University of Aberdeen.

  • in accordance with the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework (SCQF) at Higher level
  • by educationalists experienced in working at this academic level
  • to develop your Higher-level skills and support your access into college and university.

Learning only

If you complete the learning only, you will not receive a qualification, credits or a transcript.

However, you’ll have boosted your learning and if you later decide you’d like to sit the assessments, you can purchase them separately anytime.

Progress to university

Access Maths is designed to increase your maths grades, so you can meet university entry requirements.

Our Access qualifications, with successful completion of assessments, are accepted for entry at the University of Aberdeen and a range of other Scottish universities.

Access teaching

Many students take this Access course so they can apply for entry to a Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE).

Our Access qualifications, with successful completion of assessments, are accepted for entry to all our PGDEs:

Entry requirements

This course has no formal entry requirements. You decide if it’s suitable for you.

The course is designed to lift your learning to SCQF Level 6 (Higher level) and is ideally suited to those who have a pass or better at SCQF Level 5 (National 5).

National 5 is equivalent to a credit pass at Standard Grade or a good pass at O-Grade.
