Paying via SFE or SFW loan funding

This guide is for online degree students at the University of Aberdeen.

This information is for online degree students who have a tuition fee loan from:

If you’re funded by Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) or Student Finance Northern Ireland (SFNI), read our guide to paying via SAAS or SFNI loan funding.

Have you received your funding from SFE or SFW?

SFE and SFW pay tuition fees directly to students, not to the University of Aberdeen.

If you have already received your funding

If you’ve received your loan funding from SFE or SFW, you now need to pay for your courses.

Select the ‘Pay by card’ option on the ‘Pay for your learning’ screen.

Each course needs to be paid for in full before you can access it. You can manage your payment schedule by purchasing your courses according to when you receive your loan payments.

If you have NOT YET received your funding

You need to be registered with us before SFE or SFW will release funding to you.

To get registered on your first-term courses, select the ‘Request an invoice’ option on the ‘Pay for your learning’ screen.

Choose only the courses in your first term of study.

Agree to our Terms and Conditions and select ‘Continue to invoice request form’.

Enter the information we need to process your request.

Use the upload field to provide evidence of your funding, such as an award letter.

Use the additional information field to explain that you need to be registered before your funding will be awarded to you.

Click ‘Submit your request to pay by invoice’.

What happens next?

Our team will then review your documents and, assuming all is in order, approve your registration onto your first-term courses.

This will allow you to begin your studies while your loan is processed.

We will then report to SFE or SFW that you are a registered student. This will trigger your loan to be paid out to you.

Once you have received your initial loan payment from SFE or SFW, you will then pay the University for your first-term courses.

We will send you further instructions on how to pay for your first-term courses.

Payments for subsequent terms should be made directly via the ‘Pay by card’ option on the ‘Pay for your learning’ screen.

Please note:

Once you have submitted your documents, we will typically get back to you within seven days. During peak periods and University holidays this may take longer.

If we need any extra information, we will contact you via email.
